Dutch Cloud Native Day – Code of Conduct

Purpose

Dutch Cloud Native Day organizers are committed to fostering a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all participants. We believe that everyone should be able to participate in a welcoming space free from harassment and discrimination. All participants are expected to behave with integrity and respect toward everyone involved with Dutch Cloud Native Day.

Scope / Applicability

This Code of Conduct applies to all Dutch Cloud Native Day events—including conferences, workshops, meet-ups, social gatherings, online platforms, internal meetings, and all associated communications. It applies to everyone: attendees, speakers, sponsors, volunteers, organizers, and guests.

Our Code of Conduct team members are publicly announced at each event. The team is available during all official events—including the speaker dinner and social event(s)—and remains sober throughout the event.

Principles of Conduct

We expect all participants to uphold the following principles:

  • Conduct themselves in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Respect differing perspectives, viewpoints, and experiences.
  • Engage in constructive dialogue and provide feedback with tact.
  • Use inclusive language and avoid assumptions.
  • Demonstrate empathy and kindness toward others.
  • Accept responsibility and apologize to those affected by mistakes, learning from the experience.
  • Promote a collaborative and supportive atmosphere that benefits the entire community.
  • Do not judge or make assumptions about others based on visible differences or lived experiences. Treat everyone with respect.

Prohibited Conduct

The following behaviors are not permitted:

  • Harassment, intimidation, or discriminatory conduct, including offensive verbal comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion, technology choices, or the choice to wear a protective face mask.
  • Inappropriate or sexualized language, imagery, or behavior.
  • Derogatory comments, slurs, or personal or political attacks targeting any group.
  • Deliberate misgendering or use of inappropriate references to gender identity.
  • Unwanted advances or physical contact, including pinching, patting, rubbing, or brushing against someone.
  • Rating a person’s appearance or engaging in sexual attention or advances of any kind.
  • Stalking, deliberate intimidation, or sustained disruption of talks or events.
  • Disclosure of personal information (such as a physical or email address) without consent.
  • Trolling, insulting, or derogatory remarks.
  • Retaliation against individuals who report concerns.
  • Any other behavior that could reasonably be considered inappropriate in a professional setting.

Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.

Complaint Process

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, contact a member of the conference staff or Code of Conduct team immediately.
Conference staff can be identified by distinct staff badges.

If a participant engages in harassing behavior, the organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from the conference with no refund.

Examples of possible actions include (but are not limited to):

  1. Undertaking a fact-finding exercise.
  2. Requesting the offender to immediately stop the offending behavior.
  3. Suspending or terminating the offender’s access to the event.
  4. Conveying the complaint to any investigative or disciplinary authority with jurisdiction over the person accused of harassment.
  5. Contacting the offender’s employer for appropriate follow-up action.

We’re happy to help participants contact hotel/venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the conference. We value your attendance.
